Residents Requesting Padang River to Be Normalized

Residents living in Sukabumi Selatan, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, are requesting the Padang Riverbank to be installed with sheet pile and normalized. Even they do not mind if their land is acquired for widening the river.

"Residents had heard about sheet pile installation and inspection road construction plans on the river 2 years ago. They're even ready for it," said Head of RW 07, Sabeni, Monday (11/2).

Regarding this matter, Head of Kebon Jeruk Sub-District, Agus Triono stated the compensation can be processed if the residents have legal documents or land certificate. "If they don't have it, they can't get the compensation," he stated.

He then sends a letter to West Jakarta Water Management Sub-Department so that the plans can be realized soon. "I'll observe the river and send a letter to the Water Management Sub-Department," he uttered.

The river crosses RT 03-04 RW 07, Sukabumi Selatan Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, the river which has 4-6 m wide, now is dirty due to residents' trash. Not only that, the piled up sediment makes the river shallowing.
